A graduate from Northern Illinois with a degree in meteorology, Craig has more than 34 years of forecasting experience from Milwaukee, Indianapolis and Minneapolis. He was the operations manager for NOAA's Weather Service in Indianapolis for 10 years prior to becoming the Chief Meteorologist for NOAA in the Twin Cities in 1991. In the middle 90s Craig orchestrated the modernization and restructuring of the Weather Service in Minnesota, including relocating the Twin Cities Office from the Twin Cities Airport to Chanhassen and the deployment of the Doppler Radar.
Commendations for leadership and forecasting excellence have come from the Department of Commerce, NOAA, Governor's Evan Bayh of Indiana, Arnie Carlson and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
He is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association, and the Chanhassen Knights of Columbus Council. Prior to retirement in October of 2006, Mr. Edwards was a member of the Metropolitan Emergency Managers Associations, the Association of Minnesota Emergency Managers and the Federal Executive Board of Minnesota.
Mr. Edwards has appeared on ABC and CBS evening, the Weather Channel and CNN to deliver expert insight on winter storms, severe weather and flooding. Craig occasionally Today shares his meteoorological experiences and observations of the changing climate, along with forecast information on Minnesota Public Radio.
